My cat had abdominal surgery and when he was discharged I had the Tech put him in this recovery suit. 10 minutes after we got home my cat started moaning. He urinated on the recovery suit. It was like sitting in a wet diaper. I immediately removed the recovery suit and threw it in the washer. I bought a large based on my cats neck to tail, neck size and weight. Any other size would have been too small. The recovery suit goes to low and covered his penis. There’s no way I can make this recovery suit work unless I cut off the bottom that goes around his back legs which defeats the purpose to cover his abdomen so he won’t lick the incision. Yesterday I went to Petco and picked up a few dog outfits open on the bottom. The neck and front arm holes are too big but it beats wearing an e-collar. I had such high hopes this recovery suit would work for my cat based on the customer reviews. My cat didn’t like it. I strongly suggest buying alternative outfits when you have a cat that needs to cover their body after surgery. At least 3 outfits so you can switch off while washing them. Oliver TOTALLY couldn't deal with his E-collar (he's not the brightest kitten in the litter...) —it made him forget how to cat. He couldn't walk, he wouldn't eat or drink, and he just peed where he laid in our bed (sigh). So we were desperate—and this thing definitely works. He had a big old ugly skin growth removed from his belly that he'd already been gnawing on, so protecting the surgery site is important, and this suit is doing the job. He can litterbox just fine and the suit doesn't get dirty at all (so far—three days and counting; he's gonna have to wear it for at least a couple of weeks, so I'll update if we have any problems). He doesn't exactly *like* wearing it, but he can cope.Only downside seems to be that our other cat, his sister Bridget, hisses at him every time she sees him in it, but that could just be her commentary on his fashion sense. Oh, and note that Oliver is only 11.2 pounds and the Large size is stretched about to its limit—I really don't think a 14 pound cat (or a 13 pound cat, or even a rangy 12 pound cat) could fit it.I brought the suit with me to the vet and had them put it on him directly after the surgery, and they said they're thinking about getting some to keep on hand now for other cats that can't handle E-collars. The knit fabric is very soft and stretchy. I bought the medium size for a momma cat who was getting spayed. She weighs about 7-8 pounds and it fit her perfectly. I bought a small size for her 3mo, 4-lb. kitten who was neutered at the same time. On both I needed to cinch up around the neck to keep the suits in place better. And right away, I used the small size upside down (snaps on the belly side) because the male kitten was getting pee on the suit. This allowed a bit more clearance around his peepee and worked great. The only real problem I had was with momma's suit. The velcro closure on the back catches everything, including the trim around the leg holes, etc. I washed it once and between pulling parts of itself off and untangling from the velcro, the suit became frayed and the trim and seams in a couple places unraveled. So, I'd say either hand wash it or expect it to only last for a temporary period. I'd give the medium with velcro 3 stars, and the small with snaps 5 stars.★★★★★★★★★By All About Meow
